Devices show "Credentials required" although the password is right

Applies to: OADM 4.0.1 and later (in 4.0.0 and earlier, OADM says "The user name or password is wrong." for these devices)

What you see

  • The devices show Credentials required after you add or import them.
  • Log in with the right password does not help.
  • OADM says: "The device accepts only Basic login over HTTP. Turn on HTTPS on the device, or allow Basic login over HTTP in Settings."

Why

These devices have HTTPS turned off and accept only Basic login over HTTP. Basic login sends the password unencrypted. OADM does not do that unless you allow it, so the device rejects every login from OADM.

What to do

Choose one:

  1. Turn on HTTPS on the devices (recommended). OADM then logs in over HTTPS and nothing travels unencrypted.

  2. Allow Basic login over HTTP in OADM. Go to Settings > Security, turn on Allow Basic login over HTTP and click Save. Only administrators can change it.

After that reload all devices.
